FREE UCHICAGO MEDICINE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Bucksbaum Institute for Clinical Excellence at the University of Chicago was created to improve patient care; to strengthen the doctor-patient relationship; to enhance communication and decision-making in health care through research and education programs for medical students, junior faculty, and master clinicians; and to reduce health care disparities.

In our efforts to reach current and future physicians at all levels of their training, we wanted to make you aware of two free programs offered to undergraduate pre-medical students

  1. The Clinical Excellence Podcast

This podcast is a great way for pre-health students/applicants to begin to think about their own experiences in the clinic and how they may want to portray those in their application materials.
Focusing on clinical interactions and all the concepts intertwined, The Clinical Excellence Podcast is a biweekly podcast with each episode featuring a different interview subject and topic related to clinical practitioners improving their relationships with patients.
Our host, Director of Academic Programming at the Bucksbaum Institute and General Internist at UChicago Medicine, Dr. Adam Cifu discusses with his colleagues many aspects about their clinical interactions over their careers in these biweekly episodes.
Three episodes are available now for listening and discuss some of the core competencies clinical issues.
  2. The “Joel Schwab, MD On Being a Doctor” Lecture Series:
This is a monthly lecture series featuring Bucksbaum Faculty Scholars from UChicago and around the US presenting on a selected aspect of effective clinical care. The goal of this series is to educate students on importance of the interpersonal side of medicine and, particularly, the doctor -patient relationship. It is open to students from across the country. The first featured lecture is November 8th. Please go to the website link above and click on the Zoom links of each lecture you wish to attend to register.
